Paradise in Motion, a Multimedia Installation
During the pandemic, numerous businesses across Thailand were impacted by social distancing and travel restrictions. As the country gradually reopens, Patpong too is emerging from its slumber. The neon lights flicker once more, and the nocturnal denizens of this famed red-light district are once again stirring. Straddling the realms of the divine and the damned, Patpong offers its visitors a cinematic tapestry woven with threads of desire, mystery, and dazzling illumination. Paradise in Motion is a site-specific installation that captures this intriguing juxtaposition of sinfulness and mysticism. Projected onto the facade of the Black Pagoda, it transforms Patpong Soi 2 into a mesmerizing visual narrative. This video collage features dancers, mythical figures, and captivating shadowplay, paying homage to the vibrant neons, striking nail paint, and the enigmatic spirits that haunt Patpong.
The exhibition debuted at the Patpong Museum on Thursday, June 30, 2022. It featured six prints and two lightboxes, with the centerpiece being the 28-minute video installation Paradise in Motion, showcased on the exterior of the Black Pagoda. Select images and videos from the exhibition were also available for purchase as NFTs.
