Photographs and story, step by step
I decided to start the project in Chiang Mai, and while I was still figuring out who I wanted to photograph, I met Poppy, a singer who performs under the name Nadia Mania.
A barista during the day and a musician at night, Poppy already had quite a busy life. As Nadia Mania, she performs around Chiang Mai’s live-music scene, sometimes with a band and sometimes playing acoustic sets.
I asked if she would be interested in taking part in the project, and we agreed to do the session at Parang Art Stay, where I was staying at the time. A few days later, she arrived with her guitar case.
At that point, I still didn’t really know what these shoots were supposed to become. There was no studio to visit and not much of a plan. We simply spent the afternoon around Parang, talking, moving from one place to another and making pictures.
Looking back, I like that this early shoot was so simple. Poppy came over with her guitar, we spent an afternoon together, and these are the photographs that came out of it.
