Martha and Ryan run Synap.Home.Lab, an intimate Bangkok living-room venue for live coding, modular synthesis, generative visuals and experimental music. Their home becomes a recurring meeting place where artists can test new ideas and collaborations in a relaxed domestic setting.
Instagram ↗Every Monday night, a modest living room in Bangkok’s old-school residential district of Nang Loeng is transformed into an intriguing sound laboratory and hangout called Synap.Home.Lab.
Every week, Ryan and Martha roll back the furniture, dim the lights, set the gear and welcome a mix of electronic artists, coders, modular artists and other experimental musicians. Ryan, a coder, musician and fellow lecturer, handles the sound, visuals and the swarm of cables in between. Martha, a professional bartender, sets up a pop-up bar by the door and keeps the drinks flowing.
Shoes come off at the door, and one of their three cats usually sneaks in mid-set to remind everyone that this is still their home.
The visuals matter as much as the music. Ryan loves sharing generative graphics and live-coded eye candy, something we first bonded over years ago while we were both running visuals for an event. For more than two years, Synap has become a place for audio-visual experimentation, where artists who often work in the club scene can try new approaches, test ideas and form unusual collaborations.
