Aey Kuljira Thongkong is a singer and a close friend with whom I’ve collaborated on several occasions. For this portrait session in August 2024, we decided to photograph around her neighbourhood rather than in the venues where she usually performs.
She chose two outfits: a second-hand wedding dress, (definitely not for a pre-wedding shoot), and a black dress whose semiotics I’ll leave to the imagination. We wandered around her condominium and even bribed a local soi dog into joining us for a photograph.
Back in her room, I noticed a small monkey puppet, a reference to her nickname, “Aey the Ape”. It naturally ended up on her shoulder before the shoot was over.
