Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of presenting my video installation Rem.i.nisce at the Phayao Photography Biennale 2025. The work was exhibited at Muang Thong Rama, an abandoned cinema in Phayao, whose haunting and atmospheric space brought a powerful new dimension to the piece.

Re.minisce is a video collage that explores the juxtaposition of the sacred and the mundane within Bangkok’s landscape and culture. Set against the decaying walls of a once-glorious cinema, the installation recontextualised spiritual iconography and urban details, encouraging reflection on memory, ritual, and visual noise in contemporary Thai life.

The work was on view from January 17 to April 20, 2025, with daily screenings held between 15:00 and 19:00 (closed Mondays). Experiencing the piece in this derelict yet cinematic venue deepened its resonance and added layers of meaning I hadn’t fully anticipated.

I’m sincerely grateful to Ajarn Pawin Ramingwong, who supported the preparation of the venue, and to Sophirat Muangkum, the festival’s curator, for inviting me to take part in this ambitious and thoughtful program.

During my stay in Phayao, I also led a workshop on montage and storytelling at the University of Phayao and had the chance to engage with the work of other artists from the region. It was a rewarding few days filled with exchange, inspiration, and creative dialogue.
