While in Phayao earlier this year for one of my installations at the Phayao Photography Biennale, I had the pleasure of giving a talk and workshop on Montage & Storytelling at the University of Phayao (January 20, 2025).

During the session, we explored how video editing and sequencing intersect with photographic storytelling. We examined how core storytelling principles apply across various formats—whether in photo books, exhibitions, or film—and how editing choices influence both meaning and viewer perception.

From foundational sequencing techniques to the influence of montage theory, we examined how the arrangement of images and shot structures can alter emotional tone, rhythm, and narrative clarity. These discussions provided both students and participants with a framework for thinking more critically about visual storytelling, regardless of the medium.

I’m very grateful to Ajarn Pawin Ramingwong and Sophrat Muangkum for the warm welcome and the invitation to contribute to such a thoughtful event.
