As a coordinator for the “arTech” project, an inspiring initiative brought to life by the collaboration between the EUNIC-Cluster Bangkok and Silpakorn University International College, I had the enriching experience of guiding a group of talented European and Thai art students. This project was designed to merge traditional art forms with modern technology, challenging students from both continents to create together and reflect on technology’s influence on future generations.
Our journey began with a deep dive into the rich cultural fabric of the Nang Loeng Community in Bangkok. Through an immersive walking tour and a hands-on workshop facilitated by the local community members, our students gleaned insights that would serve as the bedrock for their creative processes. It was truly remarkable to see how these interactions sparked ideas that transcended traditional art forms, integrating cutting-edge digital techniques that both preserved and transformed local traditions into something new and breathtaking.
I was deeply involved in every phase of this project, from pairing students from diverse backgrounds to ensuring their creative visions aligned with our project goals. My role also extended to meticulously documenting the project’s development, capturing every significant moment and the profound interactions that unfolded between the students and the Nang Loeng community. Moreover, I edited a video that encapsulated the essence of our collaborative journey, showcasing the dynamic exchange of ideas and the culmination of our efforts in an interdisciplinary art exhibition.
The exhibition, held in Bangkok 1899 from November 17 to November 30, 2023, was a testament to the participants’ hard work and innovative spirit. It was a privilege to watch as each artwork, infused with the essence of Nang Loeng and augmented by digital innovation, captured the attention and admiration of an international audience. This project highlighted the fusion of art and technology and celebrated the unique cultural heritage that continues to inspire and shape future generations of artists.
