I was invited to do a live visual performance with several bands and musician for the opening of “Resort” exhibition on Thursday 3rd October. I was briefed to use visuals reminding holidays and relaxing time, I chose to work mostly with 60s-70s footage, using for instance ski movies, contrasting quite well with Thailand. For my projection system, I had to use my own projector, which was not powerful enough to give a very bright image. I roughly mapped my projector on the ramp of the 8th floor, creating a super wide screen.
I found the logo of the festival a bit too static so I animated it using techniques borrowed to Man Ray and other surreal filmmakers. With the printed logo put on a light-table, I distorted the image using water from a coffee kettle moving in front of my camera… I then inverted the image and slow-down the footage in post.
